Latest evidence about ETOPS extension, from an aircrash victim :

" POTENTIAL MURDER "

DOES EVERYONE BELIEVE THAT SAFETY IS FOR THE OTHER GUY ? THAT IT WON'T HAPPEN TO ME ? THAT IT WON' T HAPPEN TO OUR ENGINES ? WHERE IS THAT OTHER GUY? PERHAPS HE IS ALREADY IN HEAVEN !!!!!

I am writing this true, short story for those who MAY loose their loved ones if ETOPS is extended. This story is not directly related to ETOPS but I believe that it may cause some people to stop and realize that ... Not Everything Goes According to Plan.

This story begins 40 years ago with my father who was, by the way, a pilot in the war. Because of the business he was in, he was looking at buying a single engine plane. Another pilot took him out for a test flight and the engine failed on their landing approach. They crashed and both the pilot and my father were killed instantly. I was 9 years old and, even though my parents were divorced, I needed my father. I needed his love. Now, we move forward in time a little over 20 years and, I have a half-sister who works for a" Charter " company in reservations. There is a "charter flight" that is short a hostess and my half-sister fills in for that flight. The flight is over water with normal weather conditions. One of the engines fails. Then, I was told, the other engine caught fire. Did it catch fire ? Truly, it does not matter because the facts are that the plane was never found! She was 22 years old with a baby daughter. I realize that engines are built much better today. But, in 20 years, they will be built better even better.

Does that bring back ANYONE who might be killed because an engine was taxed, perhaps beyond its limits ? And, as far as I am concerned, flying any twin engine aircraft on one engine for more than is absolutely necessary is a form of "Potential Murder ".

Tell me, what are the odds of two people from the same family being killed in airplane crashes 20 years apart ? Do you think those supporting the ETOPS extension would like to talk to me about the chances of a problem developing on a taxed second engine ? I THINK NOT !!!!

Will those supporting the ETOPS extension please give this extension, which is purely for commercial and economic reasons, a second thought. Lives are worth a second thought. Just put one of your loved ones on that one flight that might experience trouble and see how you would live with yourself if it were to crash and your support of ETOPS was the real cause.......the " Potential Murder ".
